The opening scene of the movie "Gravity" is the source of my inspiration. My work is something might happens in the distance future. An accident happens because of the clash between space junk and the space station. Since the dawn of the space age in the 1950s, we have launched thousands of rockets and sent even more satellites into orbit. Many are still there, and we face an ever-increasing risk of collision as we launch more. For now, there are around 34,000 pieces of space junk bigger than 10 centimetres in size and millions of smaller pieces that could nonetheless prove disastrous if they hit something else. The effects of such impacts can be serious for astronauts and space stations – as the dramatic opening scenes of the 2013 movie Gravity depict. Space junk is a serious problem, and none of us want to see this frame happening in the future.
